"Umbrella" came out of a brief to create a personal lighting system using aluminium in conjunction with an off-the-shelf product while I was studying at Cental St. Martins. I decided to start with an item which is already both personal and practical. The umbrella.
It would seem the majority of the population is made of sugar when it starts to rain. Umbrellas out and it stays directly over the head of the user, no matter who is in their way. "This is my umbrella and I am not going to get wet". This selfishness inspired this umbrella-light, flooding the user with light, drawing attention to them selves and their selfishness.
